Fishing Reports 2006

December

December 16

Chubby and I took the Anticipation out for the final trip of the year.  We had a relaxing today trolling around Manasquan

Inlet.  We caught many bluefish and only one keeper bass on a spoon.

December 11

Took the Bluewater Yatch Sales team out for some bass trolling/jigging.  In the morning off of Seaside Heights there was

amazing bird action with all of the samll stripers you wanted.  We boated 20 shorts.  Moved off into deeper water and hooked

a large bass.  We pulled the hook on the that fish.  Later in the afternoon, we located some bird action up off Bay Head.

We were able to cast shads to surface feeding bass landing 3 keepers.

December 9

Took the Paul Stettnor charter out for some more striped bass action.  Ended up offf Seaside Park trolling stripers upto 32".

The end of the day we were able to finally starting jigging some.

November

November 23-26

Was planning on some serious Thanksgiving fishing but the weather did not want to cooperate and was blowing

NE 25-35 mph all weekend :(

November 19

Took the Ono Pharma USA, Inc charter out for a day of striped bass trolling.  Started right outside the Manasquan inlet

we were immediately into bluefish.  We spent the morning landing about 30 blues.  In the early afternoon the bass decided

to show up and we landed 6 keepers to 35".

November 12

Took the Quantum Concepts charter out for some striper trolling.  We headed north out of Manasquan.  Again, plenty of bait not

many fish.  Ended the end trolling 20 bluefish to 15 lbs.  Beutiful day on the water.  Hopefully the run will start soon.

November 11

Took the Paul Stetnor charter out for a day of striper fishing.  We went out of BI and headed north.  Not much going on

off if IBSP or Seaside.  Trolled for awhile with no luck.  Decided to try south of BI.  Ended up of Harvery Cedars with Gannets

diving and good marks on the finder.  Trolling was again slow, except for catching the illegal gill netter on the beach.  Lost 2

new secret spoons.  We did mange to boat one striper as a lost surf rod was floating and Paul retrieved it and brought in a

28 inch striper.

November 4

Due to unsettled weather this trip was cancelled

October

October 29

Due to the Gale force west winds no fishing today.  Went to the beach near Bayhead and saw many schools of

birds working close to the beach with breaking fish beneath.  Getting ready for a great November for bass.  Most dates

are gone but have only a few open dates left if interested.

October 28

After returning from a long trip to Italy for vacation, we were greater by a large wind storm that canceled today's

charter.

September

September 16

Took the Atlantic Concrete and Masonry Co. out for a day of inshore tuna trolling.  Starting at the Barnegat Ridge

I found nothing happening.  No bait, no fish no life.  I heard some reports further out at the Fingers so we picked up

and went.  Trolling the middle finger we loaded up on false albacore.  We had many double and triple headers using light

tackle.  Charter had a great time and nice weather.

September 6

Charter cancelled due to bad weather.

August

August 20

Chubby and Mr. Collis were on board today to get in on the great fluking now south of Manasquan. We went right to where

I had them last trip and started to pick away.  Fishing in 60-70 feet of water we ended with 12 keepers to 6.5lbs.

August 14

Took the guys from BlueWater Yacht Sales for a day of fluking.  Leaving Barnegat Inlet we headed north of the bathing pavillion.

Not much action there, so we moved to Seaside again with no much luck.  I finally found the fish around Ocean Beach.  Most

fish were in 60 to 70 feet.  We ended the day with 14 keepers to 7lbs.

August 5

Took Chubby and Mr. Collis out to find some inshore tuna.  Started at the Manasquan Ridge with no luck.  Moved off the west side

of the Mudhole.  Had clear water at 80.5 degrees.  We worked the pots tirelessly.  One small Mahi Mahi was hooked for our efforts.

Nothing else was hooked, not much life in this part of the ocean. Back to some more fluking until more Tuna move inshore.

July

July 29

Cruising charter with Dawn Kleinschmidt.  Cruised around the bay stopping at some secluded areas to relax.  I served ice cold

beverages along with fresh Jersey peaches and broiled roasted peppers on seasoned pita bread topped with melted provolone

cheese.  Great weather.

July 28

After several weeks of traveling/bad weather I delivered a boat for Blue Water Yacht Sales. A Glacier Bay 2680 from TR to Oceanic

Marina on the Shewsbury River.  Nice ride up with no problems docking.  Saw pods of Bluefish on the way up along with many boats

fluke fishing around the Monmouth Beach area.

July 9

Took the Don Reitberg charter out to search for some large bluefin tuna.  Slow morning at the Ridge(landed one bonita), then moved

off to the Fingers in 72 degree waters.   Worked our way NE and hooked up two at 41 miles from the inlet.  Both fish spooled both TLD 15

with 20 pound test.  With the knot at the spool, I quickly turned the boat and the anglers were able to gain line.  After 1 hour

of battling, we finally saw the fish. After I released some tangled lines from the propellers one broke off and we landed the other.

A nice 42 inch 50-60 pound BFT.  However, due to the regulations we had to release.  We took a picture and tossed it back. Overall

a great day.

July 8

Took Dan Hill and Paul Stettnor out for some striped bass fishing again.  Leaving the dock early was the ticket today.  Leaving

out of Barnegat Inlet we had no problem finding the bunkers.  We loaded the livewell, then started to look for the pods with bass

in them. We found them about 2 miles north.  We had a fast and furious bite that lasted about 1.5 hours.  We ended the

day with 8 bass from 29 to 41 pounds.  Paul landed the 41 pounder (his personal best).  Paul also landed a 39 pounder that took

the bunker snagger using 12 pound test.  Great job.

July 1

Had Chubby (happy Birthday), Mr. Collis, Paul Stettnor and Dan Hill out for some bass fishing. After fishing off Bay Head

the day before I decided to go further south to try and get away from the boat traffic.  We headed out Barnegat Inlet at

4:45 am.  We had bunker snagged just outside the inlet in 45 ft of water.  We then moved around to try and find the bunker

pods with bass in them.  We located a huge pod with breaking fish in them.   The bass were very aggressive and we hooked

up shortly after arriving.  Everyone on board landed very large fish.  Dan had two at 30 lbs, Chubby had one at 30 lbs and

one at 39 lbs. Paul had one at 30lbs, Captain had one at 31 lbs and Mr. Collis had the largest at 42 lbs (48 inches).

June

June 30

Took Paul Stettnor out for bass fishing.  Leaving the dock at 4:00am we were able to snag all the bunker we needed in the Bay Head

area.  We caught a total of 6 bass (kept 4) upto 30 lbs. Bite died off early after change of tide and boat traffic started.

June 23

Went out with Garrett Jones on a crew trip to get in on the awesome striped bass fishing that is occurring along the beach.

We snagged bunker in the Mantoloking area and immediately had big bass on them.  We had double and triple headers of

bass.  We ended the day with 22 bass upto 43 lbs.   We kept 7 for the dinner table and released the rest.  Best areas were

pods that were not molested by other boats.

June 17

Took the Evans Air charter out for fluke.  We drifted the Asbury Park area and continued to slaughter the short fluke.

Very few keepers were caught however at least 100 shorts were caught and released.  Weather was great and water temps

were upto to 63.

June 11

Took the Ono Pharma USA Charter out for a day of fluking. Started at the high rise in Asbury Park close to the beach.

We had constant action with small fluke.  Ended the day the 6 keepers and 80 shorts.

May

May 27

Took Chubby, Mr. Collis, Gabe and Garrett out for some bunker fishing for bass. Got a great report near Asbury Park with live

Bunkers the day before.  However when we arrived there it was pea soup fog and no bunker around.  We ended up jigging

bluefish most of the day.

May 20

Took the David Boulton Charter out to catch the early morning spoonoing bite at the Shewsbury Rocks.  Leaving the dock

at 3:30 am we were the first to arrive at the Rocks.  We boated our first bass within 10 minutes of trolling.

We managed 4 bass at the Rocks to 38 lbs (46 inches).  We ended the day jigging and trolling 3 miles off Long

Branch.  Left early due to some crew being sick.

May 13

Chubby and I managed to get out into the ocean for a half day fluking only to find that the water temperature

dropped to 56.2 north of Manasquan Inlet.  We tried close to the beach and 1.5 miles offshore.  No fluke were caught.

We even tried drifting the river, but that to was cold and no fish caught.  Lots of reports of stripers to the north

with some bunker showing up.  My next few trips will be targeting large stripers north of Manasquan.

May 12

Garrett C. Jones and I spent a half day in the Manasquan River fluking due to rough ocean conditions.

Working small bucktails tipped with killies, we managed only 5 shorts. Water temp was 61.1  Beautiful

day on the water with bright sunshine and warm weather (NE 30 mph with rain was predicted).

April

April 30

Took Gabe Lerman and Chubby Maurer out to get in on the great top water bluefish action we had on

Friday.  However, today was totally different.  Wind was howling and the inlet had a big heave to it,

making for difficult fishing conditions.  No blues or stripers were boated.  We started and ended the

day drifting the PP Canal before calling it a day.  Another one of those days where 'you should have

been here yesterday'.

April 28

Garrett Jones and I made the first trip together aboard the 'Anticipation'.  We drifted the PP Canal and

Manasquan River in pursuit of striped bass. We only enticed two hits on sandworms.  We decided to

head for the inlet at the end of the outgoing tide to try for some blues.  We found them 3/4 of the way

down the jetty rocks on the north hand side.  We had great action with blues ranging from 3-8lbs.

Most of the blues were caught on white shads along with metal bunker shaped jigs.

April 11

Fished in Virgin Gorda, BVI for a day of offshore trolling. Ran 15 miles in 5-7 foot seas to the South Drop

with Mahoe Bay Sportfishing. Boated a few Mahi under a floating palet.  Followed the frigate birds and

located 2 large Mahi and one Blue Marlin.  Gabe Lerman limped into the fighting chair ready to do battle.

After a 30 minute fight, the estimated 150lbs Blue Marlin was photographed and released. Ended the day with 6

Mahi and 1 released Blue Marlin.  Biras Creek Resort (www.biras.com) prepared one filet of Mahi for us at the

beach bar grill for lunch. Due to technical difficulties no photographs are available.
